It does look pretty delicious. In Japan as part of a set meal at a nice wagyu steak restaurant I ate shell from a huge prawn served as a separate dish following the tail (the starter), it’s actually not bad. It was cooked to the point of being slightly burnt then some garlic based sauce was added – the very crunchy texture is a bit challenging but the taste is quite pleasant. It’s also pretty normal to eat smaller sea creatures still in shell e.g. glass shrimp – not really my thing but I tried it.

I believe these are the soul food of Enoshima located in yokohama prefecture Japan, called Maruyaki Takosenbei. As a Japanese, I actually find these to be pretty delicious.
